Start by thinking of the object in layers. A layer is one level of cubes. In each layer, look for rows and columns.

Example: Build an object with 2 layers. Each layer has 2 rows, and each row has 3 cubes.

  1. Build the bottom layer.
    Place 33 cubes in a row.

  2. Make a second row.
    Place another row of 33 cubes directly behind the first row.

    The bottom layer now has 22 rows and 33 columns.

  3. Build the top layer.
    Place 66 more cubes on top. Each top cube should sit directly above a bottom cube.

  4. Check the object.
    It has:

    • 33 cubes from front to back in each row,
    • 22 rows,
    • 22 layers high.

    The cubes make one solid rectangular block.

You can turn the block and see different faces, but it is still the same object. Look for its flat faces, straight edges, and corner points, called vertices. When building, make sure cubes touch and line up so the rows, columns, and layers fit together.
