Skill: Compare heights

To compare heights, look at how far each object goes up from its base.

1. Find the bottom of each object.
2. Put the bottoms on the same line.
3. Compare the tops:
   • The object with the higher top is taller.
   • The object with the lower top is shorter.
   • If the tops match, they are the same height.

Example: A pencil and a crayon are standing on a table. Their bottoms are lined up on the same table line.

The top of the pencil reaches higher than the top of the crayon. Therefore:

$$\text{The pencil is taller than the crayon.}$$

The crayon is shorter than the pencil. Always line up the bases first so that the comparison is fair.
