Skill: Count simple mixed coin collections

To find the value of a mixed coin collection:

1. Find the value of each kind of coin.
2. Count equal coins by skip-counting.
3. Add the groups together.
4. Write the answer in cents.

Example: You have 2 pennies, 1 nickel, 2 dimes, and 1 quarter.

• 2 pennies: $1+1=2$ cents
• 1 nickel: $5$ cents
• 2 dimes: $10+10=20$ cents
• 1 quarter: $25$ cents

Now add the groups:

$$2+5+20+25=52$$

The coins are worth 52 cents altogether. The order of the coins does not change the total.
