Sorting objects into categories means classifying a collection according to a stated observable attribute, such as color, shape, size, or use, and placing each object in the category whose rule it satisfies. The learner understands that the same objects may be regrouped using a different attribute and that category counts describe the resulting data; formal set notation, overlapping classifications, and multi-attribute tables are beyond this level.
To sort objects, choose one rule and put each object with the other objects that have the same attribute.
Example: Sort these blocks by color:
š“ šµ š¢ š“ š¢ šµ
The groups are:
All the blocks are sorted, and each block is in the category that matches its color.
