A bar graph represents categorical data by using equal-width bars whose lengths or heights correspond to category frequencies, with a meaningful title, labeled categories and numerical axis, and a consistent whole-number scale such as 1, 2, 5, or 10. Creating one requires translating a data table or set of counts into accurate visual quantities and recognizing that gaps between bars distinguish categories; fractional, decimal, continuous-data, and more advanced statistical scales are not included.
A bar graph shows how many items are in each category. Each category has its own bar.
