Determine intervals where a function is increasing or decreasing

An increasing interval is a connected portion of a function’s domain in which larger input values produce larger output values; on a decreasing interval, larger inputs produce smaller outputs. The understanding includes identifying such intervals from graphs, tables, and suitable equations by locating turning points, respecting domain restrictions and open or closed endpoints, and distinguishing increase or decrease from constant portions and isolated extrema; derivative-based analysis and more advanced generalized cases are not included.
