To estimate a product, round the factors to friendly numbers that are easy to multiply. The answer will be close to the exact product, but it will be quicker to find.

Example: Estimate $38 \times 21$ .

Round each factor to the nearest ten:
- $38$ rounds to $40$ .
- $21$ rounds to $20$ .
Multiply the rounded numbers:

40 \times 20 = 800

State the estimate:

38 \times 21 \approx 800

So, $38 \times 21$ is about 800. This makes sense because $38$ is close to $40$ and $21$ is close to $20$ .
