Skill: Round numbers to the nearest 100

To round a whole number to the nearest hundred:

1. Find the tens digit.
2. If the tens digit is 0–4, round down.
3. If the tens digit is 5–9, round up.
4. Change the tens digit and all digits to its right to zeros.

Example: Round $(4{,}763)$ to the nearest hundred.

• The hundreds digit is $7$.
• The tens digit is $6$.
• Since $6$ is in the range $(5\text{–}9)$, round the hundreds digit up from $7$ to $8$.
• Change the tens and ones digits to zeros.

So, $(4{,}763)$ rounded to the nearest hundred is $(4{,}800)$.
