Step 1: Look for unusual values.
The value is much larger than the other values. It is an extreme value.
Step 2: Find the mean.
The mean is about minutes. However, most students read between and minutes, so the mean has been pulled higher by the minutes.

The values are already in order. There are values, so the middle value is the fourth value:

The median, minutes, is the best measure of centre because the data contain an extreme value. It gives a more typical reading time for the group than the mean.
